A Stronger Workforce Starts Here: Delta Dental Foundation Invests in CT State Manchester

At CT State Manchester, the future of Connecticut’s oral health workforce is taking shape — one student at a time.

Now, that future is expanding.

A new $180,000, two-year investment from the Delta Dental of New Jersey Foundation is strengthening the College’s Dental Assisting Technician Program — supporting facility upgrades, expanding enrollment, and helping more students access careers in a high-demand field.

“This investment is transformational for our students and for the communities they will go on to serve,” said Dr. Joshua Moon-Johnson, President of CT State Manchester. “By expanding our Dental Assisting program, we are increasing access to workforce training while helping meet a critical healthcare need across Connecticut.”

Addressing a Critical Workforce Need

Dental practices across the state continue to face a shortage of qualified assistants, limiting access to timely care for patients.

CT State Manchester’s program, accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), is uniquely positioned to help close that gap. Students receive both classroom instruction and hands-on clinical training, preparing them to enter the workforce with confidence.

With support from Delta Dental, the College is advancing the buildout of a new, expanded Dental Assisting lab equipped with modern, industry-standard technology. These upgrades ensure students are trained on the same tools used in today’s dental practices — reducing onboarding time and strengthening workforce readiness.

Expanding Access, Reducing Barriers

For many students, the greatest challenge isn’t the coursework — it’s the cost.

Grant funding will also provide scholarships and financial assistance to help cover essential expenses such as textbooks, transportation, and certification exams. This support is critical for a student population where many face financial barriers that can impact persistence and completion.

“We’re growing with intention,” said Rosemary Ryan, Program Coordinator. “This partnership allows us to expand our capacity while staying focused on outcomes —graduating highly skilled, certified dental assistants ready to step directly into Connecticut’s workforce.”

A ribbon cutting and rededication of the newly expanded Dental Assisting lab is planned for May 7, 2026.
